Solstice comes from the Latin ‘sol’ (sun) and ‘sistere’ (to stand still) and marks the point when the Sun appears to stand still on it’s seasonal path. ⁣

The Winter solstice celebrates the longest night of the year and reminds us that just as the moon gives birth to the sun, the longest dark night will always be followed by the light. ⁣
⁣
As part of your Winter Solstice ritual - dedicate some time for meditation and reflection. ⁣

A few weeks ago I signed up for Mental Health Firs

A few weeks ago I signed up for Mental Health First Aid Training being offered at the local life saving club.⁣
⁣
Such a great initiative, sponsored by the local council and Life Saving Victoria.⁣
⁣
We completed Day 1 today and will continue learning and discussing tomorrow.⁣
⁣
As a meditation teacher it was so great to see the many reference to mindfulness, and conscious relaxation, as some of the tools to support mental health and well-being.⁣
⁣
I get it!⁣
⁣
I have my own experiences to inform me on the effectiveness and transformational qualities of mindfulness, and as a teacher seen the power of these ancient tools for others, not only supporting general well-being, and positively influencing anxiety, but even in navigating panic attacks.⁣
⁣
Being able to positively ‘hack’ the nervous system, initiate the relaxation response and ground yourself when you need or want too .. can be life changing.⁣
⁣
Looking forward to a good nights sleep and another day of learning .. with the gentle lapping of the water and seagulls singing as our soundscape!⁣

This week in ‘the Seasonal Lounge’ (monthly meditation membership) - I shared the magic of the Mindfulness Bell .. which is a bell that you often hear at meditation centers, retreats and ashrams.⁣
⁣
When the Mindfulness Bell is rung .. everyone pauses what they are doing momentarily so they can reunite mind and body, see the moment more clearly and perhaps reflect on where their mind has been!⁣
⁣
So. I was doing some fresh research to find an App version that I could confidently offer to everyone for our Mindfulness practice this week (and beyond).⁣
⁣
I revisited Plum Village as I had used their online Mindfulness Bell before .. and found an App that I excitedly downloaded and set up immediately.⁣
⁣
And over the past few weeks .. it has been the most beautiful gift to myself 🙏🏼 ⁣
⁣
Our theme this month of June is ‘Retreat’ .. and every hour, my phone chimes a deep and resonate Mindfulness Bell and I pause what I am doing and take a moment of RETREAT with three long, slow and deep breaths.⁣
⁣
Completely in the moment. ⁣
⁣
A priceless moment of Retreat in a busy day.⁣
⁣
And although I have my twice daily meditation practice and regular daily Mindfulness exercises … this has been a revelation 🧘🏼‍♀️ ⁣
⁣
A gift!⁣
⁣
It is FREE. Easy to set up - just click the lotus flower and select your times and preferred bell - and then enjoy returning to yourself, each and every mindful moment from that point on. ⁣
⁣
I come back to my day - refreshed, awake, alert and with a smile.⁣ I just had one of those moments and realized that I had to share with YOU.

The wild storms and wicked gale force winds that have rained down on us the past few days .. have been extreme!⁣
⁣
If you live in Victoria (Australia) I hope you are safe and protected. I keep hearing from friends about power outages and trees down, and even flooding. I hope you have found safe-harbour!⁣
⁣
In the darkness of night, Mother Natures wild and unpredictable weather seem even more intense, and certainly kept me alert and awake.⁣
⁣
Then last night .. all was still.⁣
⁣
So still that again I couldn’t sleep because the stillness was so intense .. almost unnatural.⁣
⁣
And today .. the sun is out, the grass is dry, the wind is a soft breeze and the birds are singing super loud.⁣
⁣
And so the world turns, the seasons shift and the cycle continues.⁣
⁣
And I am taking this moment to be grateful for the sunshine, for a roof over my head, food in the pantry, power and fresh running water.⁣

Mother Nature reminds us 🙏🏼⁣

Seasonal Mindfulness is a word that ‘came to me’ a few years ago as I grappled with Winter.⁣
⁣
Winter simply made me miserable. I complained a lot. I lamented and struggled and tried to run away .. but it didn’t work.⁣
⁣
Until one day, I reflected that it was my mindset around Winter that was the real challenge. And that Winter is a natural and necessary part of the cycle of life - both for the external world and landscape around us, and also WITHIN us.⁣
⁣
From that point Seasonal Mindfulness became my daily practice that included:⁣
⁣
*Mindful awareness to the unique gifts of each Winters day .. to be conscious and curious and open to finding those moments⁣
⁣
and⁣
⁣
*Gratitude. Giving thanks for each small moment or big magic .. both in the moment at the end of each day a list of three things most grateful for.⁣
⁣
I learned a lot. I now appreciate Winter and we have a much kinder relationship!⁣
⁣
I set up an Instagram page @SeasonalMindfulness to share some of my journey through the seasons.⁣
⁣
This Winter I am recommitting to my daily practice and am going to share some of my daily gifts with a post over there.⁣
⁣
