I can see a continuing trend of articles on meditation within the corporate and working sector crossing my desk, and it was great to see some current statistics focused on the Australian market.

1. The Surprising Leadership Power of Daily Meditation:

In this Forbes article, “Quieting The Noise: The Surprising Leadership Power Of Daily Meditation,” Shekar Natarajan, a seasoned supply chain executive, shared how his commitment to daily meditation and periodic retreats significantly enhances his leadership capabilities. By dedicating two weeks every nine months to complete mental clarity – free from meetings, decisions, and distractions – he says that he returns with heightened focus and resilience, better equipped to navigate the complexities of modern leadership. Natarajan emphasizes that meditation isn’t merely a wellness trend but a strategic tool for leaders to cultivate calmness, clarity, and intentionality in decision-making. His insights underscore the transformative impact of mindfulness practices in fostering effective leadership in today’s fast-paced business environment.

2. 2025 Leading Mentally Healthy Workplaces Survey:

The 2025 Leading Mentally Healthy Workplaces Survey by the Corporate Mental Health Alliance Australia (CMHAA) reveals significant insights into workplace mental health across the nation. Notably, 44% of employees reported experiencing some level of burnout, with nearly half (47%) rating their current performance lower than usual. Alarmingly, only 50% felt their leadership prioritized mental health equally with workplace performance, and just 56% felt safe discussing mental health concerns at work. While the report doesn’t delve deeply into meditation, the prevalence of burnout and stress underscores the potential value of mindfulness practices in the workplace. Implementing meditation programs could serve as a proactive measure to enhance employee well-being and performance.

Sarah here … I spent more than 15 years in a very competitive and challenging corporate environment, and thankfully (gratefully) I also had a strong, daily meditation practice already in my toolbox. My morning practice set the calm and centered tone for my day, and I had a bag of mindfulness tools to see me through my day that was inevitably about putting out fires and attending meetings .. then, on the tram heading home, I had my mantra practice to settle and calm before my role of ‘mum’ took over. You can read about my Day of Meditation and I can also bring meditation to your workplace (virtually or onsite).
